How a reclaimed oak counter and three barbers became Ironworks Lane's regular Saturday stop.
Iron & Oak has been on Ironworks Lane since 1923, when it opened as a straightforward neighbourhood barber shop in what was then a hardware store front. Nearly a century on, the oak shelving along the back wall is still original, and regulars still call it "the old hardware shop" out of habit.
Marcus Reyes took over as owner in 2014, and kept more of the building than he changed. The idea was simple: bring back the parts of barbering that had quietly disappeared from most of the shops in town. A straight razor instead of a disposable. A hot towel instead of a spray bottle. A barber who remembers what you asked for last time, and asks how the job interview went.
We're not trying to be the fastest cut on the street. We're trying to be the one you don't think twice about rebooking.
What we hold to
Every barber here served a real apprenticeship. We'd rather take an extra ten minutes than send you out with a line that isn't quite right.
Regulars get their name remembered, not just their usual. We sponsor the youth football club two doors down and cut hair for free on graduation week.
The same fade you got in March is the fade you'll get in November, from the same barber, if you book with them again.
